Agalloch - ...And The Great Cold Death Of The Earth

the mantle is an essential late year album. its sounds and atmosphere encompass a desolate taiga, the acoustic guitar brings up images of a snowy landscape shimmering in the sunlight, the contrabass bellows with a new season's transicndental awakening, or perhaps death. this is an album that will always give you the time and space to reflect. it's an obvious turn in ther discography with its folk and progressive influence, but it carries those labels with absolute grace.

sickening and apocalyptic powerviolence, siege is grindcore's PATIENT ZERO. their wave of rage and energy reverberates through every band they've influenced, it is a very powerful force that's stood the test of time perfectly. there's great comfort in lyrics like these, especially in our modern times when the people have been bent over backwards with dissilusion and abuse, to be in touch with one's anger is always the first step towards a great change

Hipodil - Bate Goiko

hipodil is one of the most well-known ska/punk bands here in bulgaria.
this specific song was written about serbian actor gojko mitić, it serves as the opening track for their 1999 album "тъ'пест".
the last show i went to that featured predominantly punk bands was a ton of fun. so many interesting people to interact with, most of them being near carbon copies of each other — camo pants and boots, mohawks or shaved heads, you get the point.
at the end of the night we went to say goodbye to one of such guys, he had a short mohawk because he "couldn't be bothered brushing it out anymore", dude asked for everyone's socials then drunkenly pulled out this battered nokia with buttons that didn't even have internet on it. i didn't strike up much of a conversation with him because we ended up loudly singing this song right in the middle of the street.
moments like these are the best

Sunny Day Real Estate - Novum Vetus

novum vetus, meaning 'new old' in rough translation, a track that was conceived around the time of their album 'how it feels to be something on'.
its release was incredibly triumphant to me, a glimmer in the dark after 20 whole years to bring us a song that would've been an album highlight.
novum vetus takes its time and perfectly encapsulates the thoughtfulness i love in sdre's music, the progression sways gently, as if out in open sea, a journey through life with a warm and comforting ending that's captured perfectly in the music video ^.^ the darkness is scratched away and the wood is painted with the colours of a bright sunrise
this music makes my chest swell with happiness. even though sdre isn't tied to a single genre label, to me their earnest lyrics and melodies feel defining for emo from that time period as they introduced a lot of vulnerability into the genre. this will always be one of my favourite bands ever.

CTTS is an absolutely /unbeatable/ band. many of their songs are favourites of mine but this one is insanely satisfying — what i find most outstanding is the rhythmic flow of their lyrics, music and poetry woven into a colourful tapestry of introspection, it thrusts you into a world of emotion that post-hardcore will likely not see recreated for a long time.
